Aerostructures Engineer

Position Overview  

As an Aerostructures Engineer you will be tasked with the design and fabrication of the rocket’s airframe including the body tube, nose cone and fins. These are all essential for QPL to fly high and fly safe and often require long hours in the workshop to take your design from page to product. 

Responsibilities

  • CAD – Design and creation of components for manufacture
  • Assessment of manufacturability at all stages of design  
  • Hands-on manufacture of components 
  • Management of rocket mass and volume budgets
  • Aerodynamic analysis of flight trajectories and identification of key forces in flight
  • Structural calculations to ensure key components survive all stages of launch 
  • Creation of technical drawings

Useful Skills

  • SolidWorks- Proficiency in SolidWorks for creating detailed and accurate 3D models.
  • CFD – Experience using computational fluid dynamics software such as Ansys Fluent
  • FEA – Practice analysing Finite Element models on software such as Abaqus or Ansys
  • Hands-on experience in a workshop manufacturing components
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques used in aerospace
  • Excel – Proficiency in organizing and analysing data, creating spreadsheets, and generating reports
